A recent pest control job in the Essex area found us treating a loft, and the seals around the upstairs windows for this fairly common pest. On inspection of the loft we discovered the owner had been leaving large amounts of mouse bait in trays on the loft floor. We looked carefully around the bait trays and it was clear that beetle larva had been at work on the grain mouse bait, small holes in the plastic trays and the grain in places eaten to a dust like substance, told our pest control experts at wild things pest solutions, everything we needed to know.

It’s Summer, and the wasps are making their nests.

This wasps nest was found recently by Wild Things Pest Solutions in its early stage, so it was only about the size of a tennis ball.As you can see the nest is constructed of a paper mache substance which the wasps make from pulped wood. This material is surprisingly waterproof, and as the season progresses the nest could increase to 5 times the size it is now. Typically it's the wasp vespula Germanica or the European wasp that builds its nest in trees and shrubs.

When it comes to wasps there are two main species which are most commonly found in the UK. These are vespula vulgaris and vespula germanica, the latter being the wasp most frequently encountered during the British Summer. Vespula germanica is easy to identify because it has 3 black spots either side of its abdomen.

The brown rat – pest control service

The common brown rat (rattus norvegicus) never ceases to amaze me. During the daily course of my work I have grown to admire there tenacity to take advantage of every situation available to them, from there ability to climb just about anything, and find there way into our loft or cavity walls, to there very sharp incisor teeth which can gnaw through metals and even concrete. They can swim up to half a mile on open water and dive to a depth of 3 ft or more. There has been a case where a local river authority had concerns, because the rats were diving to take the swan mussels ofF the river bed.

Moles can be a real nuisance in many situations, from sports turfs and agricultural land to our gardens.There busy lives of excavating tunnels, which can be up to 20 meters in one day, leaves behind the mounds of soil which spoils our well kept lawns and makes the job of mowing a difficult one. If these subterranean miners are not dealt with quickly, large areas of turf and crops are damaged.
